How to style a plaid skirt…

Hello Homebodies,

Let’s talk about the love I have for you all, so much love that I got a parking ticket trying to take these pictures (it was almost two but the meter maid had a heart). Along with my parking disaster I learned that if you walk around dressed like a schoolgirl men will stare, in the uncomfortable way, but I’m getting off topic. Originally I wanted to channel a Clueless vibe with this plaid skirt but finding that exact yellow plaid that Cher wore was impossible. So with this first look I’m giving you Mary Katherine Gallagher (Superstar) with a mix of Parisian school girl.

Enjoy!

The weather was gloomy but isn’t Downtown Detroit just beautiful?

Let’s get into this outfit breakdown Beret, Glasses, Shirt, Socks. The shoes are from Walmart, if you don’t shop Walmart’s shoe section you are definitely missing out, that’s where I find some of the cutest shoes for CHEAP.

Now give me some grunge!!!

Now this is more my style band tee, heel booties, fishnets and chains. Is this not a complete vibe? The weather was perfect for this look, dark and cloudy skies. The wet wooden bleachers weren’t fun though. Glasses and chain belt from SheIN, this is the same purse from my 2 piece set look it’s Michael Kors from T. J. Maxx. The Metallica tee is from Target’s mens section and the fishnets are from Amazon. The same booties from my 1980 to 2020 look, they’re my favorite and they’re from Fashion Nova.

This fabric is the same fabric I used in my 20 year friendship celebration, from OakFabrics. I watched a tutorial from BambiixFashion for the pleated skirt. I honestly don’t know if I would say it was 100% helpful because after I calculated everything she told me to do I had not clue what to do with the numbers so I just ended up doing 2” pleats that resulted in me creating a skirt that was extremely (I mean EXTREMELY) too big. After cutting off the extra material I added a zipper to the side seam and a hook and eye closure to the waist band. With a few modifications I definitely plan to make more pleated skirts because this one came out so freakin cute.

Which look is more your style? Mary Katherine Gallagher, the Parisian schoolgirl, or band tees and fishnets.
